Glampitect, NEC, Birmingham – Transport Statement & Swept Path Analysis

Our Development Planning team supported Glampitect to secure planning consent for an exciting new glamping site – AvantGlamp at the NEC, Birmingham. The picturesque lakeside site is nestled between the National Exhibition Centre and Resorts World Arena, and will include 59 pods, accommodating up to 248 guests.

The TPS team were appointed to prepare the Transport Statement in support of the planning application. This involved a site visit to understand the operation of the surrounding highway network and advise on how access and visitor drop-offs could be achieved without compromising the security of the wider NEC site. A particular challenge was the high pedestrian footfall around the NEC and it was important to overcome any potential conflict with visitors and servicing of the development.

The Transport Statement also highlighted and focused on the accessibility of the site by public transport (given the proximity of Birmingham International Station) and how the parking demand could be accommodated in the existing NEC car parking facilities.

Our work also extended beyond the Transport Statement, and we assisted with swept path analysis. This illustrated how the servicing of the glamping site could be achieved in the context of the wider servicing strategy for the NEC.

We look forward to seeing the plans come to fruition later this year and to working with Glampitect on future projects.
