TPS were appointed to prepare a Transport Statement and an Environmental Statement Chapter in relation to the demolition of the Turbine Hall and Electrical Annex at Sizewell A nuclear power station in Suffolk. The Environmental Statement Chapter was prepared in line with the Guidelines for the Environmental Assessment of Road Traffic (GEART). This approach ensured that all relevant environmental factors associated with road traffic were meticulously assessed, thereby maintaining a high standard of environmental protection and regulatory compliance.
The overall aim of Environmental Statement is to protect the environment by ensuring that a local planning authority, when deciding whether to grant planning permission for a project which is likely to have significant effects on the environment, does so in the full knowledge of the likely significant effects, and takes this into account in the decision making process.
The work we undertook focused on the likely effects of the traffic generated by the demolition process on driver delay, severance, pedestrian delay, pedestrian amenity, fear and intimidation plus accidents and safety.
We identified the potential traffic generating impact of the demolition work across a large study area to understand the magnitude of impact. We determined that the impact of the demolition would be negligible (not significant).
Team TPS were pleased to work alongside Enzygo on this strategically important project.
Following our work, the implementation of a Construction Environmental Management Plan and a Project Waste Management Plan (prepared by others) ensured that the residual cumulative effects of vehicular traffic would be negligible.
