Team TPS in the spotlight – Alice Thatcher

In our latest Team TPS spotlight, we have Alice Thatcher. Alice joined us earlier in 2023 and did you know she was named as one of Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling 2020?! Find out more…

What is your role at TPS and how long have you been here?

I joined TPS in February this year as Principal Transport Planner. Previous to this, I worked as a Transport planning officer for a local authority.

What do you get up to on a typical day at work?

My work varies from day to day. One day could be meeting clients and another could be leading a lunchtime walk. In general, most of my work involves the implementation of travel plans and delivery of activities to inspire staff at workplaces.

Tell us something that your connections might be interested to know about you?

I am pretty keen on anything cycle related. In previous work I have delivered award-winning behaviour change projects, teaching migrant women to cycle. Because of this, I was named as one of Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling 2020 which was an honour.

Outside of work, I am renovating a house, which is exciting but very stressful. Project managing tradespeople is challenging at the best of times, more so with a 2 year old running about!

What’s your favourite thing to have worked on in the last month?

I have been filming some of the walking and cycling routes to a site with a bike camera. This has been great fun, but does involve more skill than I anticipated! I’ve loved spending time on the cycle routes and seeing them change along with the seasons. They are lined with cow parsley and buttercups at the moment.

How do you wind down out of work?

When not doing DIY or managing an energetic toddler, we like going on bike rides or walks in the countryside. This often involves a pub lunch! When I have 5 minutes, I love to potter in the garden, keeping an eye on the veg beds and flowers, or just drinking tea in the sunshine.

I like to do a bit of running now and then and I’ve just signed up to the York 10k this year, to motivate me to get do more!
