TPS has recently received the fantastic news that we were successful in being awarded Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival grant at four separate client sites, including Kirkstall Forge, Sci-Tech Daresbury and business parks in Chester and Camberley.
As part of an ongoing role on each project, we have been providing bespoke travel planning support to these clients (and others) as they look to return staff to the workplace, post pandemic. Much of this has centred on ensuring that workplaces can accommodate an increase in active travel, whether through new infrastructure or ‘softer’ initiatives that support those that might not have cycled to work before.
The Big Bike Revival funding, which follows the fix – learn – ride model of delivery, will see initiatives such as Dr. Bike health checks, led rides, cycle champion training and new equipment, being delivered for free to over 3,500 employees across the four locations.
Prior to the COVID pandemic many organisations had the daily challenge of accommodating parking demand from staff and visitors and these sites were no different. The need to influence travel choices and deliver real behaviour change over the coming months will be critical to ensuring these sites do not experience parking problems and the Big Bike Revival funding and support will really help!
We also want to help our clients to build on the positive trend towards cycling seen nationally during lockdown; encouraging those who might have dusted off the bike and got out for some fresh air, or invested in a bike (if you could get one!!) to get fit, to carry on this good habit and give cycling a go on the commute to work.
If you’re unsure about whether your organisation is transport-ready for a return to the workplace or whether there’s more you need to do to prevent car parking chaos, why not get in touch with our team for an informal chat?
