Northgate, Morpeth – Transport Assessment & Travel Plan

TPS was appointed to support Taylor Wimpey NE in applying for a new development of 225 homes on the north-western fringe of the historic market town of Morpeth. Services required included the preparation of Transport Assessment and Travel Plan reports in support of the planning application.

The Reserved Matters planning application for the Northgate Hospital site, located directly adjacent to the A1, saw TPS work closely and collaboratively with Taylor Wimpey and Northumberland County Council.  We drew upon our extensive development planning skills to demonstrate that the forecast impact of development related traffic on the local and strategic road network was in line with the original planning application, consented at the site.  Particular regard was given to the effect of the development on the proposed Morpeth Northern Bypass

TPS completed a comprehensive scoping exercise with the County Council, in line with the recommendations of ‘Guidance on Transport Assessments. This process helped us to avoid long running, post-submission discussions with the highway officers.

Alongside the Transport Assessment, which considered the impacts of development on the local highway network, TPS prepared a comprehensive Travel Plan strategy. Drawing upon our teams vast experience of implementing residential travel plans on behalf of Taylor Wimpey and other developers, the Travel Plan identified a series of cost effective and practical measures which would help minimise the number of car journeys generated by the scheme.

The Transport Assessment and Travel Plan reports prepared by our team were subsequently approved by the local highway authority, helping to secure planning permission at the site.
