Temple Moor High School, Leeds

Our Development Planning team were appointed recently to support proposals for a proposed sixth form expansion to Temple Moor High School in Leeds. The planned expansion would increase student numbers from 163 to 350 and our work involved a Transport Statement to support the proposals.

As part of the work undertaken, our team also undertook a Travel Survey. This collated responses from both students and staff to determine the likely uplift in trips and modes of transport as a result of the expansion. The results of the Travel Survey subsequently allowed the team to develop a comprehensive Travel Plan document for the high school which outlines and sets out how the school will manage travel going forwards. In particular, when supporting planning applications, we ensure that our Travel Plan reports are appropriate to the scale and nature of the development in question. Importantly, our reports find the correct balance between planning compliance, the objectives of our client, and the practicalities of implementation.

Additionally, the Development Planning team worked hard to justify the level of car parking as some spaces were to be lost as part of the extension proposals. Using our experience and knowledge, the team provided evidence that the reduction in spaces wouldn’t result in an overspill of parking onto the local highway network. The team had to overcome two highway consultation responses which raised issues with the level of car parking which was to remain and the design of the spaces. Our team provided comprehensive responses on how parking could be provided which would suit the project but also comply with Leeds City Council parking standards.

We are pleased that the project gained planning approval and we look forward to seeing the expansion work progress.
