Road Safety Audits

Through our approved partners, we are proud to offer comprehensive and professional road safety audits that covers all four stages of the audit process, in full compliance with GG119 of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).

Road Safety Audits (RSA) play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and functionality of public highways, particularly when significant changes or developments are proposed. These audits are often required as a result of mitigation proposals presented within a Transport Assessment. Additionally, both Local Planning and Highway Authorities mandate the submission of a Road Safety Audit as an integral component of the adoption process for any new public highway.

RSA services are divided into four distinct stages, each serving a specific purpose in the development and evaluation of road safety measures:

Stage 1 – Completion of Preliminary Design: At this initial stage, our audit partner assesses the preliminary design of the proposed changes to the highway. This involves a comprehensive review to identify potential safety issues and recommend appropriate solutions.

Stage 2 – Completion of Detailed Design (or combined Stage 1&2): Building upon the findings of Stage 1, this stage delves into the detailed design aspects. The design plans are meticulously reviewed, ensuring that every element complies with safety standards and best practices. In some cases, Stages 1 and 2 may be combined for efficiency.

Stage 3 – Completion of Construction: Once construction is underway, our audit partner continues to monitor the project’s safety aspects to confirm that the planned safety measures are being implemented correctly. This stage is critical to guarantee that safety is not compromised during construction.

Stage 4 – Post-Opening Monitoring (12 months): After the highway is opened to the public, it is monitored for a duration of 12 months. This extended assessment period ensures that any latent safety issues are identified and addressed promptly, contributing to long-term road safety.
